I haven't put much on this blog about my business.
I think I might start.
This is a recent picture of my space in
Downtown Lancaster at Building Character.
Our plan is to continue to be at BC as well as our shop in Strasburg.
It is an exciting time for our family. We are working together
to get things ready, in a very short amount of time.

I'm not quite sure how long I have dreamed of having a shop of my own...I just know, and those close to me know, it's been a very, very long time.
Rarely do my husband and I go for rides in the car when I don't point out some location, a farm, a barn, a market, a building, and start designing our family business on the spot. Many years ago when Louie and Annie were toddlers, I read somewhere that every time a mom folds her child's socks she should pray for their future spouse. I have done this throughout the years-not every time of course, but the call to do that has never left me..
Annie and I went for coffee at Barnes and Noble this morning. As you know I really enjoy making new stuff out of old stuff.
This is made from a really old weathered window frame, A piece of vine I shaped from a really long piece of vine, dried hydrangea from the garden, bits of lace, doilies, burlap, muslin, and twine.
I like the way it all came together...

The first time we took a ride on the Strasburg Railroad our older kids were about 2 and 3 years old. I have to dig up this one specific picture I still have in my mind. It is the one of our son, just as happy as can be. He was a HUGE Thomas the Tank Engine fan.
As we travelled down the rails from Strasburg to Paradise. I was once again reminded how Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6252045814505125115.post-7023242543673940682012-08-17T08:02:00.000-04:002012-08-17T08:06:38.951-04:00now...
It seems some people are just born knowing what
they want to be and do when they grow up.
My husband is one of those people. Our son is one of those people. I remember the first time our son told me he wanted to be a teacher. He was 5. He left yesterday for his senior year at college as an education major. This is the one we come back to.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to have a business of my own. One where I would sell the things that I make and enjoy.
My mom is an incredibly talented crafter and I watched her growing up. A seamstress, floral designer, a crafter of all sorts. I remember watching her refinish furniture when I was just a wee little girl.

Last year these vines were overflowing with beautiful grapes and over 1 weekend when we weren't looking, the birds picked them dry. Hopefully that will not let that happen this year.
Hubby has a new hobby. He is making these gourd birdhouses from last years garden. So pretty.
We got this bird bath at an auction recently. Our yard is quite a Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6252045814505125115.post-33033544484813836662012-03-22T08:22:00.000-04:002012-03-22T09:05:19.641-04:00squeaky shoes...
My friend Beth and I met downtown the other afternoon and found ourselves at a really nice children's boutique called Bella Boo.
Where we found these adorable shoes that squeak like rubber ducks when she walks.
I know some people might wonder, why in the world would someone actually pay for shoes that squeak (like my sister-lol!)?
I don't mind the squeak, I think they are Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6252045814505125115.post-66283716920654673812012-03-15T06:44:00.004-04:002012-03-15T06:44:59.336-04:00spring!
We went out to park to collect pinecones last evening. We use them in hubby's Christmas wreaths. Have to plan ahead you know...
We spotted about 25 deer and the girls were thrilled!

This is a quick and yummy salad. I'm sorry I don't have an exact recipe.
baby spinach
sliced strawberries
For vinegrette:
2 T olive oil
1 T cider vinegar
couple dashes paprika
couple dashes onion powder
bit of sugar
1/4 t salt
fresh ground black pepper
If I had them I would use some chopped green onion.
Whisk vinegrette well in big bowl,
add strawberries and spinach,

We are impressed that dd7 was able to make a snowman the size of her, with the little snow we got this morning.
Notice, she built him on the driveway-lol.
I don't know another child who goes through snow pants the way she does. Every year, it doesn't matter if I buy a better brand or not. She plays hard and goes right through the knees.

Oh play-doh, I love you!!!
The very first thing to keep her attention for any significant time period.
I decided to bring the last dresser from my living room down to the space at Building Character. Here is another similarly painted one I thought I would keep for home. The other dresser sold in a day and half (yeah!) so this one will go down today to fill the space.

The living room has been my latest project. The curtains are from Ikea. I purchased them on a trip there at the end of last month. I wasn't crazy about them but the length was right and the price was right. I didn't take them out of the packaging in case I found something I liked better. Sometimes we buy it from a local pizzeria and sometimes we make it. Actually, hubby makes it. He has become quite proficient at making the dough. When we make it at home we make garlic knots. Garlic knots seem to be a NY thing and not necessarily a Lancaster thing. I'll post about them another time. So yummy and so simple.
